Custom tea boxes are printed cartons for tea bags, sachets and loose leaf, built around a product that’s unusually sensitive to what surrounds it. We produce singles, variety packs and loose-leaf tins and cartons in kraft, cardboard and specialty stocks. Orders start at 200 units.

Tea is one of the most absorbent foods there is, which means the carton’s material choices matter more here than in most food categories. Odour, moisture and light all affect tea quality, and increasingly customers are asking what the tea bag itself is made from, not just what’s printed on the box.

Tea Absorbs Everything Around It

Tea leaves are porous and readily pick up volatile compounds from packaging materials, other tea in a variety pack, and the surrounding environment.

• Cross-contamination between flavours in a variety box is real. A strongly scented flavour, like a chai or a fruit blend, can taint a neighbouring plain black or green tea if they’re not properly separated.
• Individually wrapped or sachet-sealed bags solve most of this, which is why serious tea brands rarely rely on a shared compartment with only cardboard dividers.

• Light degrades tea over time, particularly delicate green and white teas, so a closed carton or an opaque tin protects quality on a lit retail shelf better than an open display.

Moisture Is the Other Threat

Practical specification points:

• Individual foil or laminate sachets are the actual moisture barrier for bagged tea, with the carton providing structure and branding around them.
• Loose-leaf tea in a paperboard box needs an inner liner such as a foil bag or a wax-lined pouch, since loose leaf has more surface area exposed to air than a bagged product.
• Tins offer better moisture and light protection than cartons for premium loose-leaf lines, though at higher cost. We can produce the paperboard sleeve or outer carton that wraps a tin.

What’s the Tea Bag Made From? Customers Are Asking

This is a live consumer issue and worth addressing directly if your brand can.

Research since 2019, including studies published in Environmental Science & Technology, has found that pyramid-style “silken” tea bags made from nylon-6 or PET release substantial numbers of microplastic and nanoplastic particles into the cup during steeping, with one widely cited study measuring billions of particles per bag. Polypropylene, commonly used to heat-seal paper tea bags at the edges, is a separate source of plastic in bags that otherwise look like plain paper. Research through 2026 has continued to find shedding across a range of bag materials at typical brewing temperatures, including from PLA-based “compostable” bags, though generally at lower levels than nylon or PET.

Why this matters for packaging:

• If your bags are unbleached paper, cotton muslin or a genuinely plastic-free construction, that’s a claim worth featuring prominently on pack. It’s currently a meaningful differentiator, and consumer awareness of tea bag material has grown substantially in the last few years.
• If your bags use nylon mesh, PET pyramid construction or polypropylene heat-seals, be accurate about it rather than implying “silky” or “premium” material is plastic-free by default. Consumers researching this topic are increasingly specific about what they’re checking for.
• Panel space is needed either way, whether that’s a positive material claim or accurate ingredient and material disclosure.

Steeping Instructions Are Worth the Panel Space

Tea is one of the few food categories where consumers genuinely want instructional copy: water temperature, steep time and quantity vary meaningfully between green, black, white, herbal and oolong teas, and getting it wrong is the most common reason people say they “don’t like” a tea they’ve actually just brewed incorrectly.

Interior printing works well here. Steeping instructions on the inside of the lid or box are read at exactly the moment they’re useful, without competing for space with your front-panel branding.

How Your Order Is Produced

1. Send your requirements. Bag or sachet count and configuration, or loose-leaf format, whether you’re using dividers or individual wrapping, quantity, stock, and any material claim you want featured.
2. Receive your quote and dieline. Compartments or inserts designed to prevent cross-contamination, panels laid out for your claims and instructions.
3. Place artwork and approve the proof. We check bleed, colour mode, resolution, fold lines and legibility of steeping instructions or ingredient copy.
4. Request a physical sample (optional). Order within 30 days and the cost is credited back. Check compartment fit with your actual bag count and confirm nothing crosses flavours.
5. Production. Printing, lamination, die-cutting, window patching, insert assembly and gluing.
6. Quality check and dispatch.

Standard production runs 8 to 12 days after proof approval, plus transit.
